Dr Shand, together with a qualified Psychologist and Psychometrist, is able to offer a wide variety of psychological assessments, including:

 Which assessments fit with each age group? 


Developmental Assessments: 
For children from birth to 6 years old. Aimed at assessing level of progress towards developmental milestones, including gross- and fine-motor control, speech and language development, personal and social self-care skills, and practical reasoning abilities. This type of assessment is recommended for school-readiness purposes, as well as when there is a specific concern about possible delayed development in any area. 

Emotional Assessments: 
Focusing primarily on self-esteem, confidence and functioning within the family unit, school environment and socially. 

Educational Assessments: 
Examining intellectual functioning (IQ), as well as skills such as reading accuracy, spelling, reading comprehension, written work and mathematics. A screening for learning disabilities, as well as the emotional components of learning, like achievement-motivation, confidence in scholastic aims and goals, as well as study habits and attitudes are included. Specific focus is placed on whether remedial assistance, occupational therapy, speech therapy or other interventions are required to assist the learner in achieving according to their full potential. 

Psycho-legal/Forensic Assessments:
For purposes of custody, access, physical/sexual abuse, adoption and Motor Vehicle Accident Claims [MVA claims] {Dr Shand has completed the Advanced Certificate
in Forensic Psychology at Pretoria University ’04} 

Emigration Assessments:
Reports written in order to determine and quantify children’s specialised educational needs prior to emigration. 

Special Concessions:
Such as additional time when writing matriculation and university examinations, as well as spelling and handwriting concessions. 

Vocational Assessments: 
Looking at aptitudes, interests, personality functioning, goals and values, and combining these so as to increase self-knowledge and enable the client to make a more informed and considered choice with regards to a change in career or tertiary education and further study. 

Subject Choice Assessments: 
Examining aptitudes, interests and future career goals. 

Psychological Assessments: 
Examining intellectual functioning [IQ] by means of an IQ test to assist the person in understanding his/her areas of Intellectual strength or vulnerability. South African or international tests can be used depending on the needs of the individual.

Promotional/Change in Career Assessments:
An interview would reveal the adult’s needs in terms of job satisfaction and requirements in the workplace. Aptitude/Intellectual tests as well as Interest Inventories together with Personality Tests would assist the psychologist in guiding the adult/institution in making decisions regarding whether to accept the position or whether to hire the candidate.
